StopWake helps train passengers receive journey-distance alerts, share journey information with someone they choose, and access useful safety contacts. This notice explains the personal information involved when using the StopWake iPhone app or visiting stopwake.com.

1. Who this notice covers

This notice applies to the StopWake app, website and any enquiries sent to us. For privacy questions and requests, contact [email protected].

2. Information used by the app

Depending on the features you choose to use, the app needs access to certain information:

• Location and journey information: your device's location, chosen destination, estimated distance to it, and alert distance preferences, to monitor your journey and provide a proximity alert.
• Journey-contact details: details of a person you select, where you enable a contact or messaging feature.
• Shared journey details: destination, journey status, approximate remaining distance and, where you choose, a snapshot of your latest available location.
• Settings: preferences such as alarm mode and notification or contact options.

StopWake relies on the permissions you grant through iOS for location, contacts and notifications. You can change permissions in your iPhone settings, although this may limit the features that work.

3. Why we use it

The purposes are to provide your selected journey alert, enable the sharing or preparation of journey messages you choose, remember relevant preferences, and offer shortcuts to safety contacts. Location, selected contact details and journey settings are processed on your device to provide the features you request. Location access is controlled by your iOS permission choices, and sharing is initiated by you. StopWake does not receive a central copy of your location or contacts through the current app implementation.

4. Your messages and journey sharing

When you choose to share your journey, the app can prepare a message for a recipient you select. Messages are reviewed and sent through your device's messaging functions. The receiving person and your messaging provider may retain a copy once sent. Sharing a location snapshot does not provide continuous live tracking. An automatic message should not be assumed sent unless your phone shows that it has actually been sent.

5. Website visits and support messages

The website itself does not ask for your precise device location, does not provide a user account form, and does not run advertising or marketing analytics scripts in this version. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may process standard technical connection and security data such as IP addresses and request logs in order to serve and protect the website.

If you email us, we receive the details you provide, including your email address and any information or screenshots in your message. We use that information to answer your enquiry, investigate a problem, meet legal obligations, and protect the service. The lawful basis for handling support enquiries is generally our legitimate interest in providing effective support, or steps connected with providing a service you have requested.

6. Other services

StopWake uses iOS system capabilities and may involve services operated by Apple, your mobile network, your messaging provider, location/map services and Cloudflare. Those providers may process information under their own privacy notices. Contacting 999 or texting 61016 passes communications to the relevant operator through your device; StopWake does not itself provide an emergency response service.

The current development version does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs or upload journeys to a StopWake server. Shared location snapshots can include a Google Maps link containing coordinates; opening it sends those coordinates to Google. Apple and Google process information under their own privacy notices. We will update this notice if the released app adds services that change these practices.

7. Keeping information and security

Your selected contact name and phone number, favourite stations, preferences and active-journey recovery information are stored locally on your phone. Temporary near-arrival message drafts are cleared when the journey ends; saved settings and contacts remain until changed, removed or the app is deleted. Your device backup settings may affect whether locally stored preferences are included in backups. Deleting the app may remove locally stored app data, but it does not delete text messages already sent or information held by third parties. Support correspondence is retained only for as long as needed to resolve the enquiry and maintain reasonable records, subject to legal requirements.

We use appropriate measures to protect information under our control. No app or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law gives you rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. You may also withdraw consent where consent is the applicable basis. You can manage iOS permissions directly in Settings.

For any privacy question, data access or deletion request, email [email protected] with the subject “StopWake Privacy Request”. We may need to confirm your identity before responding. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

9. Children

StopWake is a general travel utility rather than a service aimed specifically at children. A parent or guardian should consider location and messaging permissions before allowing a child to use the app.

10. Cookies and updates

This website version does not place optional analytics or marketing cookies through its own code. Essential infrastructure services may use technical measures needed for security or delivery. If optional cookies, analytics or advertising are introduced, we will update our notices and provide any choice required by law.
